On Friday Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, acting President of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov met with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Latvia Edgars Rinkevics.

The Parties discussed the current political situation in Ukraine and the necessity of further applying financial sanctions against former officials who fled Ukraine.

“This concerns Viktor Yanukovych and other high-ranking officials who committed crimes against their own people, and who are involved in mass killings,” said Oleksandr Turchynov, adding that the next step of the new government will be returning “these funds to Ukraine.”

In his turn, Edgars Rinkevics claimed that “Latvia welcomes changes occurring in Ukraine.”

Moreover, the Latvian Party said that it will support Ukraine on its way to European integration by all means.

“We are aware of difficulties you will face on the way of reforming Ukraine, and we are ready to provide you with extensive support,” he said, stressing that the issue on applying sanctions in relation to capitals of former officials will be soon considered in the European Union.
